May 10th We hosted an Open House party at our new offices on 889 West Pender Street. The event provided members the opportunity to see old faces and new alike, not to mention the chance to partake in some great refreshments and enjoy three Sicilian wines, Grillo, Syrah and Nero d’Avola - the evening’s hands down favourite. We also held a lucky dip, which was won by Rita Bellano, Vice President of Bellano Ceramic Tile Co. Ltd. The prize: mementos of last year’s World Cup Italian victory.
Events of the month Edmonton
June 5th The Italian Chamber of Commerce in Edmonton will be hosting the launch of the special Alberta edition of Conexus. The event will take place from 6 pm to 8 pm at Zenari’s, Main floor Manulife Place, 10180 101 Street, Edmonton. Wine will be provided by Georgia Enterprises Ltd, WineQuest and Zenari’s.

May 30th Cole Freight Inc. along with the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Calgary, hosted, at Webster Galleries (812 – 11 Avenue S.W, Calgary), a short presentation by David Bosse, Director of Cole Consulting, entitled “Logistically Thinking”. The presentation was given in order to familiarize the participants with the advantages of good logistics planning and the proper execution of strategies. Wine from the regions of Piedmont, Veneto and Tuscany for the event was supplied by Georgia Enterprises Ltd.

June 5th We will be officially presenting “Project Itaca” at the Italian Cultural Insititute. Itaca, which is subsidized by the European Union and involving the Italian Chambers of Commerce of Vancouver and Montreal, alongside the regions of Campania and Veneto, in Italy will train a junior Task Force, over the space of two years, to develop business relations with the industrial sectors of the two Italian regions. Vinitaly This yearly international wine fair that takes place in Verona, Italy, is one of the most important in the world. For the 2007 edition – that took place between March 29th and April 2nd – the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Vancouver partnered with Verona Fiere to send 4 wine importers, from Vancouver and Alberta, to this unique exhibition, featuring expert guided wine sampling and intense business negotiations.
NAFTA Area Buyers’ Mission This May, the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Canada (Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary organized the third edition of the NAFTA Area Buyers’ Mission to meet with selected food and wine manufacturers in Tuscany, from May 20th to may 27th , in the provinces of Siena, Livorno and Grosseto. The goal of the mission was to familiarize North American food and wine importers with high quality genuine Italian food products that have been recognized by the European Union Food Authority and awarded special designation reflecting guaranteed authenticity and typical origin, such as DOC, DOP, DOCG and IGT.
July 23rd until August 4thWonderbrass, an Italian Quintet, will be attending the Brass Residency at the Banff Centre. As part of the residency, the Quintet will get the opportunity to perform several times in public as part of the Banff Summer Arts Festival. This prestigious and world renowned arts festival attracts an educated audience on a local, national and international level. The Wonder Brass Quintet was founded in 2006 by five young brass players from Italy and Germany. The members of the Quintet are all employed with first-class orchestras in different countries.

The Italian Chamber of Commerce in Canada is currently undertaking "Project Itaca", a project subsidized by the European Union, involving in Canadathe Italian Chambers of Commerce of Vancouver and Montreal and in Italy the Provinces of Veneto and Campania. The junior Task Force will be trained over the two years (more than 300 hours of training are currently expected, including in-class instruction, self-directed learning and project work) and with the cooperation and assistance of the institutions involved in the Project, will be responsible for developing business relations with the industrial sectors of the two Italian provinces.
