ICCCco-ordinated a series of international marketing activities (events, business matching, site visits, fashion shows) to showcase western Canadian products and capitalize on trade opportunities during the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, Italy.
ICCC has gathered together some key industry sector organizations and groups of BC companies that wish to promote their products to potential buyers in the Turin region during the upcoming 2006 Winter Olympics. The sectors include value added wood, tourism, fashion and new technologies. Partners involved in this project are BC Wood, Leading Edge BC and the BC Ministry of Economic Development. The province of BC has provided free use of the purpose built BC Canada Place as a venue for events trade shows, meetings with local buyers and a fashion show. ICCC will organize the logistics for all the activities as well as perform business matching services for participants with our Italian partners, the Chamber of Commerce of Turin, Piemonte’s Industry Park, the Canadian Consulate in Milan and Italian industry associations.
The calendar of events is diverse and exciting, showcasing the wealth of resources, ingenuity and landscape BC has to offer to the world and as an economic partner.

This project capitalized on the unique linkages that can develop between two areas involved in putting on the Winter Olympic Games. Torino and Vancouver are given the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to market themselves to the world and to create a platform to showcase their core competencies and their leading edge technologies. They each are in a position to foster a public sense of economic momentum, which in turn fosters new investment and economic growth. Our Chamber’s task will be to facilitate synergies between the two by means of an articulated programme of activities and events. The project is a long-term commitment towards building economic momentum up to the 2010 Olympics and beyond. The lessons learned and the legacies created by the Turin Olympics will serve as the foundation of lasting relationships between British Columbia and Italy.
